Celebrating 25 Years of Partnership and Community Strength

Updated: 16 hours ago

For twenty-five years, ESS Support Services Worldwide (“ESS”), a division of Compass Group Canada, has had the honour of partnering with the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN). What began as a collaborative effort has grown into a trusted relationship shaped by shared values, cultural respect, and a deep commitment to the well-being of the community.

Over the years, ESS and ACFN have worked side by side through significant moments. This has included supporting the Nation during the 2023 wildfire evacuation in Fort Chipewyan and, most recently, during the state of emergency boil water advisory. In both instances, resources and meal programs were provided to help ensure community members had access to essentials during uncertain times. These moments have reinforced the strength of our partnership and ESS’s commitment to standing with ACFN when challenges arise.

The partnership extends far beyond operations. It reflects a shared commitment to culture, community well-being, and the people who call Fort Chipewyan home.

“Meaningful partnerships help make our community stronger,” said Chief Allan Adam. “We believe in investing in people, programs, and infrastructure to benefit future generations, and it’s partnerships like the one with ESS that make our efforts go even further. We thank ESS for their support of ACFN’s key community activities over the years.”

ESS annually contributes to initiatives and celebrations that play a meaningful role in community life. This includes supporting annual ACFN Treaty Days and Dene Days, as well as contributing Christmas hampers and market gift certificates sourced from K’ai Taile Market in Fort Chipewyan, locally owned by ACFN. Last year, Holiday Hampers were distributed in Fort Chipewyan and Fort McKay, with plans already underway to continue this tradition for the 2025 holiday season.

“Our partnership remains one of the most important relationships for ESS,” said Adam Shea, President, ESS North America and East Coast Catering. “We care deeply about the places where we work and live, and we take pride in being a positive impact in the community.”

As we reflect on a quarter century of shared history, we recognize that it’s the people who truly define this partnership. From community members who have welcomed ESS into their celebrations, to the leaders who continue to guide ACFN forward, our collaboration has shaped meaningful progress. Together we look ahead to continue this journey by supporting opportunities that strengthen culture, celebrate tradition, and uplift the community for generations to come.
