Without the commitment and dedication of our team members we would never be where we are today. This is why we’ve decided to speak directly with employees to hear more about their experiences at Acden. Next is our conversation with Hazel – read on to learn more about her career journey.
Name: Hazel Mercredi
Starting Position: Scale Operator, Denesoline Environment
Current Position: Controller, Accounting Department
When did you start with Acden?: I started with Acden in 1997 then left for other opportunities and returned in again in 2005. Then I left once again to have my youngest daughter Jessica and finish school, returning to Acden again in 2010.
What was your career path to get where you are now? Initially I wanted to become an engineer because of my interest with numbers so I pursued university in Edmonton, however after completing one year of schooling I realized that it was too much to take on with such a young son. My fascination with numbers eventually geared me into accounting for my next career step.
Can you share your thoughts on Acden as a company, overall? When I first started in 1997 there were only 10 employees, I have seen the company grow to what it is today with over 3,000 employees. All the hard work that led Acden to its existing success is from those who have worked hard and dedicated their time both in and outside of work, I am very happy and proud to be a part of that.
What are the main services offered by your current business unit? Accounting services, however I also enjoy making my time available to other business groups to assist wherever needed.
What is your favourite thing about Acden? My favorite thing is the workload. I am a workaholic and enjoy chaos, so if anyone needs assistance, regardless if it’s last minute, I will always try my best to accommodate and make my time available to help.
Can you share a work-related story or success you have experienced within the
company? There are too many good ones to name! I work with great people, mentors and teammates – the company wouldn’t be where it is today without all the great people here.
