A Summer of Experience: Summer Student Highlight

Each summer, Acden welcomes students across our marketing, communication and contracting teams. We provide opportunity to gain practical experience, develop new skills and learn more about working in a unique service industry.

Over the course of the summer, they worked alongside our employees and supported a variety of projects. Each student contributed meaningfully to Acden’s success with their hard work, new ideas and dedication to teamwork.

The students gained exposure to areas including photography, event management and supply chain support. Their roles gave them the opportunity to ask questions, take on new responsibilities and learn directly from experienced team members.

Here’s what some of our summer students had to say about their experience:

“Coming back for a second summer, one of my favourite parts has been visiting and capturing photos of the teams across different sites and facilities! They are always so welcoming, and every visit brings something new to learn. Beyond photography, I also got more opportunities to work on web design and bring user experience thinking into it, which made the work feel especially meaningful. There's something really rewarding about applying what you're learning in school and seeing it actually translates in a real setting."

“Having the opportunity to spend my summer with Acden has truly been a blessing. This experience taught me so much about the Business Development department. As an accounting student, I’m used to learning about the financial side of a business, so getting the opportunity to experience the Business Development department gave me a whole new perspective on how a company operates and succeeds. I really enjoyed planning for the Canada Day Parade and contributing to the success of the 6th Acden Show & Shine event. These projects allowed me to apply my organizational and communication skills while learning how much planning goes into successful community events. They also gave me the opportunity to connect with others and see the impact that these events have on the community. It was an honour working with Colleen and the entire team. I’m grateful for how welcoming and supportive everyone was, and how they were always willing to answer my questions and lend a helping hand. Overall, it was the people who made my experience here so meaningful, and I’m truly grateful for the connections and memories I’ll take with me”.

“Working with Acden has had a positive impact on me. Over the past two years, I have learned a great deal about the workplace and myself. My experience with the Contracts team has given me a behind-the-scenes understanding of how pricing and services are developed into quotes and contracts. The reports and data I work with have also shown me how concepts from school apply in the workplace, helping me understand new material more quickly. I especially value the people I have met and the opportunity to learn from those around me. I am truly grateful to be part of Acden”.

Summer employment not only provides opportunity for experience and learning, but it also provides Acden with fresh new ideas, and hard workers that contribute to Acden’s success.

For Acden, welcoming students also gives our teams an opportunity to share their knowledge and provide meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for the next generation of workers and professionals.
